About the Property

Primitive Instincts Youth Nature Program is located in the picturesque Central Texas Hill Country. The private 11.5 acres is off of Lone Man Mountain Rd., north of Wimberley, Texas.

The landscape ranges from savanna to woodlands, reaching down to an ephemeral creek. The stars glitter beautifully on clear nights. In fact, Wimberley is recognized as an International Dark Sky Community by the International Dark Sky Association. The biodiversity in the landscape is remarkable, allowing us to find new discoveries every time we stop to look around us. The amount of the flora and fauna are impressive.

The 11.5 acre property is tucked away, so there is privacy and it can feel secluded. The perimeter trail is approximately 3/4 of a mile long. The land has a variety of terrain and countless enchanting areas. From season to season, the land always offers something new. There is a comfortable research station on the property that is filled with books, field guides, and tools to utilize during programs. Also, there is a saltwater pool for those warm days and an archery range set up for target practice.

Our community of students and families will learn about conservation and land stewardship, in hopes they will gain a sense of ownership and respect for the land. As Aldo Leopold states, “When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect”.

We continue to evolve as time goes. We have planted many edible, herbal, and medicinal plants over the years. There are bees on the corner of the land, which can be amazing to witness. Recreational opportunities such as a basketball net, a swing, and more climbing trees have been added. We will also add amenities as the progression of the program continues. The current plans in the works include a water play feature.
